Lot 4027 CIVIL WAR MODEL 1864 BURNSIDE CARBINE ISSUED TO
18th NEW YORK CAVALRY. Cal. 54. S# 26291. Standard configuration of this well used carbine, 21" barrel, found by serial number as being issued to private Henry Servis, Co. H. 18th NYC. Gun is listed by S# in regimental records in National Archives December 2, 1863. Henry Servis (1834-1903) entered service at 29 years old in July 1863, a farmer from St. Lawrence, NY. He saw service with his company in Louisiana and Texas, mustering out July 1866 in Victoria, Texas. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: copies of archive records of issue and Henry's service records. CONDITION: good to very good overall, all original, no finish, shows saddle wear, discernible markings "BURNSIDE PATENT / MODEL OF 1864" on breech & "BURNSIDE RIFLE CO / PROVIDENCE RI" on back action lock, S# match and clear, a large "H" is carved on right buttstock probably denoting Co.
